Born in Wichita, Kansas, Osler graduated from Wichita State University in 1981 with a B.S. in business administration. After first working at an insurance firm, Osler then moved to Pasadena, California and worked as a sales representative at least a dozen positions including at four different computer stores. Osler then returned to Wichita and entered the business of offering private tutoring. In 1992, he met and met with then-CEO of ABC-TV, Company ABC, which led to Osler working as a consultant for ABC-TV for a few months before being offered a position as a senior sales representative at ABC-TV's Technology Recruitment unit. From November 1998 to June 2000, Osler was Area Development Manager for Walgreens Boots Alliance, during which time he also grew to become the company's first Area Development Manager for a U.S. retailer. In April 1997, Osler moved on to VincentBenjamin where he served as Managing Director from February 2014 to November 2017.

In his time at University of Lincoln, Andrew Osler received a BA in Business Information Systems from October 1992 to October 1995. Osler then went on to obtain an MSc in Health Science from University of Glasgow in May 1999 and a PhD in Health Science from University of Sussex in December 2001.Osler has been a researcher at Sussex since December 2001 and has worked on a number of research projects with the aim of understanding how health system performance can be improved. Osler's research work revolves around the concepts of managed care, health service organisation theory and management. Osler's research has also contributed to the development of new tools for measuring health system performance.
