This role was specifically selected due to the close proximity to my home address, and to enable me to refresh my development skills with the latest technologies (I see this as important when leading technical teams). In addition to development work, I also advised on how best to capture requirements, conduct various BA activities and manage the project. Technologies Used: Agile, C#.NET, MVC5, SQLServer 2012, Bootstrap, EF, Unity, TDD, Razor, From December 2014 to September 2015 (10 months) Head of Online (fixed term contract) @ As the number one retailer of window coverings within the UK with a turnover of in access of £150m, Hillarys group operates a number of brands, including 2 trade divisions, and 5 B2C brands. All of these brands include an online presence (directly contributing for 22% of the groups’ annual turnover). This included e-commerce sites, mobile devices applications, and functionally rich web-based sites and systems totalling 14 disparate B2C & B2B websites, all of which, I was fully responsible for. My role within the business was both complex and highly demanding, leading 2 highly specialised internal development teams with cross-platform skill sets for all online requirements within the business. I also ran a separate off-shore development team. During my time in the business, I turned around the development effort by decreasing time to market for new functionality through better working practices for upstream functionality by 35%. In addition, I led numerous large scale projects, such as re-platforming Hillarys largest ecommerce (Magento based) system, with an annual turnover in excess of 10m, which provided a ROI on the project after just 6 months, and continued to save the business 0.5m per year in running costs, as well as increasing online transactions by a very significant 22%. In addition, I oversaw a number of internal and external programmes and projects, such as the development of a 900+ advisor extranet system, and a tablet based sales tool. In my role, I would often work closely with board members and the senior management team, drawing on expertise from other parts of the IT function, such as business analysts, infrastructure and SAP support and development teams, as well as working very closely with the Marketing department. Technologies Used: JIRA, Agile, SQL, MySQL, Razor, GIT, Umbraco, Magneto, PHP, SAP, .NET4.5, IIS, Apache From January 2014 to October 2014 (10 months) Nottingham, United KingdomHead of IT / Programme Manager @ As one of the UK’s leading Event Management businesses, my role within Zibrant was to both line and project manage the existing delivery teams and infrastructure, bring solutions to the business, improve processes, manage strategic plans, annual budgets, presales work and associated other tasks. My remit covered everything from 3rd party service delivery through to traditional IT support and development practices. Some of the capabilities brought into Zibrant were tried and tested approaches used in my earlier roles, as well as venturing into new territory, including a major shift in practices, such as working with a 3rd party to migrate some existing internal systems to an outsourced data centre, as well as addressing a number of compliance issues such as PCI DSS. Reporting to the Global Operations MD and working regularly alongside board members, I was also involved in shaping the IT systems and to ensure that a strong IT strategy was put in place and delivered on to enable the business to operate as efficiently as possible under what where challenging economic conditions. I was tasked with building a new development team and introducing a range of business processes to support a development function to the business (this includes dialler/telephony integration). I am responsible for delivery/management of products over the full SDLC for projects as well as providing a SOA framework for delivering flexible solutions to the business needs. Part of my role is to provide management and continual improvement of both first and second line support functions to the rest of the business including a call centre of 100+ agents, with which I aim to bring ‘Best Practice’ to these service delivery areas. I have been responsible for utilising my knowledge of ITIL to provide helpdesk, Incident and Change management functions to the business. The primary tool for implementing much of this, has been via a custom solution utilising Microsoft SharePoint Services. Other non-development aspects of my role consist of man management functions (recruitment, reviews, etc) as well as client setup/integration and dealing with 3rd party suppliers of software, data and systems.
