Solution involved creation of an advanced image analysis software, unique systems for protection of critical hard-to-defend assets such as Pipelines using satellites, UAV’s, and ground-based sensors, and created a radical new operational approach. Led product design, system architecture, and business development efforts for a US-based startup developing software for mobile operators, working on US$10 Million opportunities with some of the worlds’ largest mobile network operators and OEM’s. Also developed partnerships on behalf of this client with technology leaders within the mobile telecom industry. Led the deployment of a medical device manufacturer for a Major Western defence force. Project involved the creation of a private wireless network that would link personal monitoring devices to vehicle-mounted central command and control centres. Created and led several opportunities involving High-speed Satellite communications valued at 4 million. Euros. At the core of this work was significant academic research. From July 2011 to Present (4 years 6 months) United KingdomVP CTO, new product development @ The Mer Group (www.mer-group.com) is a global developer and integrator of telecommunications and defence systems (turnover ~US$150 million). Alon worked primarily with several subsidiaries Responsibilities: Creation of innovative new products at several subsidiaries and their commercial and technical leadership. Alon was responsible for keeping abreast of technology trends, managing the product roadmap, and maintaining the offering in the “bleeding edge” of technology. Global business development – focusing on innovative products – including creation of partnerships and distribution networks. Bid preparation and management – dealing with opportunities worth up to 25 Million Euros. Serving as the #2 executive at a subsidiary, responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations: R&D, manufacturing, business development, logistics, purchasing, installation and after-sale support. Achievements Completely redefined the product offering for different markets. The new products created now stand as the company’s primary offering –embedded electronic devices focusing on wireless mobile communications for defense use – and generating over 10 Million US dollars in Business: see for instance : Raising over 30 million Euros in grant funding from the EU and similar bodies – to multi-national consortiums led by MER group subsidiaries. These consortiums, included up to 25 partners: Universities, Startups, and established companies – and represented nearly every EU member state. From 2006 to July 2011 (5 years) IsraelVice President, Head of R&D @ Alon served as head of R&D for Orpak systems (www.orpak.com) A global provider of wireless payment systems and large cloud based systems to the Retail Oil and Gas sector. Orpak has an annual turn-over of $50 million. • Direct line management of a multi-national, multi-site R&D dept with a staff of about 50. Staff included software engineers, in various technologies (WEB, embedded software, Databases, Windows, LINUX), electronics engineers, Quality assurance, systems testing, and project managers. Achieved a dramatic improvement in Product quality. This was done through a dramatic re-organisation, introduction of Formal methodologies such as AGILE, and the successful implementation of Software testing procedures. Introduced to the company the concept of formal project management, and “matrix” type approach to project management Personal responsibility for deliverables for over 60 different clients in 40 countries. Personal management of large scale software delivery programmes valued at up to $15 million To some of the worlds’ largest oil companies A Host of software languages used, including C++, C#, JAVA, PERL, LAMP systems. VB.Net, asp.net SQL, MySQL, Assembly, and several legacy, specialist and Rare languages (Delphi, PL/M, C, VB6). Managing a budget of over 5$ Million EMV Level 1, EMV Level 2, EMV certification, ISO9001, PCI PED, VISA PED, ISO 8583,ISO 14443 and similar standards relating to financial transaction processing, Payment applications, including credit card, smart card and chip card operations. From 2004 to 2006 (2 years) Director, Strategic projects manager @ Responsible for the creation and management of large project oriented bodies (staff of about 100 consisting of R&D, Manufacturing, support at all levels, and account managers), distributed over 4 Countries. Provided leadership of several new products through their entire life-cycle, from Concept, to Market, to on-site support. Most successful one generated well over $100 million in revenues. Management of a $30 million per annum account delivering a complete SMS Center system for a leading tier-1 cellular operator. This project won the company award for excellence (The FTR award - given to one outstanding project) – it was the first time such an award was given. Creation and leadership of a new cutting- edge product called “Who Called”. Leadership of this product from the initial concept stage, commercial and technical design through initial market launch. This product is generating sales of 15-20$ million a year since its inception in 2002. Creation and leadership of a unique product in the field of Voice Over IP(VOIP) using both SIP and H.323 technologies. The product was the first of its kind in the world. Invented and submitted a patent for a unique product which the company has been trying to market. Providing extensive knowledge in a very wide array of technologies and platforms, especially in the field of cellular telephony (both SS7 and IP (VoIP) based. From 2000 to 2004 (4 years) Project Manager @ Leadership of a software group of 5 developers providing software ( Embedded C/C++/ASM as well as JAVA, VB ) to a variety of projects. Responsible for electronic development and manufacturing of several unique products in the field of wire line access telecom networks. Hardware was mostly low-cost, mass produced PCB’s , using MCS-51,68XXX or ARM-based processors. DSP (TI c6xxx) – were also used. Introduced the VxWORKS embedded operating system. Many of these systems are still in use today. From July 1997 to April 2000 (2 years 10 months) senior Software Developer and Project Leader @ Work as a software development engineer and project leader, dealing with payment terminals and fleet manager software. Delivered systems in 5 countries (Turkey, Sweden, Norway, USA, Israel). Alon personally developed entire Systems using embedded C, ASM and PL/M languages – mostly over PIC, and MCS-51, ARM and x86 systems – typically “bare-system” with no OS. Alon also introduced the concepts of Version management, and formal software project management methodologies. From April 1996 to July 1997 (1 year 4 months) Software Developer @ Developed embedded software for mission critical, airborne military electronic warfare systems - working mostly in C, PL/M – often “bare system” with no OS. Alon was required to develop software meeting Military airborne standards – exceptionally stringent, as human life are at stake. Alon counts among his achievements dramatic improvements to software architecture, and the introduction of several unique development tools – leading to a dramatic improvement in efficiency through a better development environment.
