In recent years my role has changed and developed into new areas. An interest in process and people has become a successful (>$10m in revenue per year and new multi million dollar clients for my employer) business and development role and positive contributions to the company's relationships with clients, team leadership and succession and changes to our use of social media and recruitment using the internet. This role has continued while leading successful teams (including design, secondments and construction monitoring) and managing projects. Feedback from clients has been very positive for myself, my projects and most rewardingly for my team and mentees. I grow and develop teams and individuals, an experience I have enjoyed and been successful at. In my career I have created a number of successful teams. My teams at Golder (Kearl), Corus, Forestry and Klohn have been particularly successful in different ways and for different reasons. I have acted as a mentor for a number of professionals over the years have enjoyed this experience. It's a continued source of pride that many still call me to discuss work and other things years later. I have a practical approach to engineering problems with significant experience in analytical methods including advanced numerical tools and models. As I have developed in my career, as a leader of design teams and discipline teams, I have found that my instincts and knowledge have grown considerably with an increasing understanding of the most important part of the team, the people themselves. This has led to less time on FE and models and more on understanding process, basic issues of engineering and the dynamics of teams and clients. My goals are to enjoy and understand engineering more clearly and to see the problem and develop solutions. I now find more interest in the human element and discovering simpler and more effective routes to solutions that satisfy clients.
