Solutions Engineer @ Facebook Menlo Park, CASenior Software Engineer @ NativeX As a Senior Software Engineer, I drove the technical effort from concept to completion of a new framework for collecting, consuming, and utilizing external metadata for all the current and future mobile apps in our system. This project involved collecting requirements and feedback on proposed designs and prototypes from almost all of our mobile business teams. Due to its impact on the future direction of our mobile roadmap, I took every measure to communicate progress, challenges, and key design decisions on a regular basis, from ER diagrams to giving presentations upon project completion. The main challenges involved adding flexibility to constantly changing or unreliable inputs, building robustness to make sure important business data never gets overridden, and architecting with scalability in mind to grow from 10K+ to millions of mobile apps.In this role, I also led several refactoring stories that greatly reduced code complexity and improved the efficiency for several high-traffic parts of our system. This resulted in reduced memory and CPU consumption by at least 5% over our entire server farm, and made many intricate parts of the codebase a lot easier to maintain. I was also an integral part of setting the direction of the internal server release process, and led the effort in the automated collection of key events, such as server releases, new SDKs, and major partners going live, and allowed this data to be overlaid on top of any of our dashboards, making it easy to visually attribute anomalies in exception counts or revenue to these captured events in real-time. From August 2014 to December 2014 (5 months) Sartell, MNSoftware Engineer @ NativeX As a technical specialist on the Engineering Support Team, I spent my time problem-solving a diverse range of issues from all sides of the company. In this role, I touched most, if not all, branches of our code base, from fixing conversion issues in our Business Intelligence pipeline, to new API calls in our C++ desktop client; from changing the structure of some of our NoSQL (C*) column families to fixing bugs in our native Android and Objective-C SDKs and their WebViews's JavaScript. My main focus was in and around our Microsoft stack server-side code that drove our API and the millions of mobile and desktop devices that it served every day.As a result of my ability to interact well with people from all areas of the business, I regularly took part in helping plan for new integrations with business partners, as well as debugging and problem-solving issues on their end, almost always in a "blind" or black-box form, since I would have little to no visibility of their implementations. Problems ranged from broken builds to bad caching strategies to discrepancies in reporting, and whenever there was no quick solution in place, I would seek to find a satisfactory workaround in order to keep the process moving forward.My broad base of both business and technical side knowledge, as well as my natural affinity for people, meant that I was an ideal candidate for on-boarding, training, and mentoring all new software engineers and architects during their first few months of joining the company. In addition to this, I was also involved in the direction of the Engineering Support Team, establishing our SLA, and more recently, helping document and standardize our software release process for the entire company.
