My current role is as Vice President - Research & Development for Big Heart Pet Brands, leading all R&D activities for our portfolio of brands, as well as the R&D Center in Terminal Island, CA and the Pet Care Centers in California and New York.
Previously, I was President of Global Innovation of MWV, reporting directly to the CEO. In this role, I was responsible for providing innovation strategy and Research & Development leadership to MWV as it focused on integrated packaging solutions and insights-centric innovation. During this period, I led the company’s Center for Packaging Innovation in Raleigh, NC and later in Richmond, Virginia. The Center for Packaging Innovation comprised the MWV corporate R&D, Market & Consumer Insights, Open Innovation and Innovation Process Management functions.
Prior to joining MWV, I worked for 20 years in Research & Development with Procter & Gamble across the Beauty Care, Bleach and Laundry Additives, Hard Surface Cleaners, Swiffer, and Fabric Care categories. In the course of these assignments, I lived for nine years in Italy, Poland, Belgium and Venezuela, and traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
A native of Cuba, I am a results-focused and effective leader, with proven ability to establish and direct Innovation and Product Development programs, build and develop Innovation and R&D organizations,and inspire/lead technical professionals. My R&D and Innovation experience ranges from Product Design/Formulation, Process Development, Products Research, Packaging and Device Development, to Packaging Materials, Paper Science and Pet Food/Snacks. I also have experience in Daily and Strategic Brand Management.

• Developed and implemented the One MWV Innovation Process Management program, including innovation portfolio management at the Strategic Business Unit and Corporate level, an Innovation Leadership career ladder and competency model, and a flexible yet robust stage-gate process.
• Created an R&D Open Innovation organization to enhance the Company's innovation capabilities, attracting top talent from within and outside the company and partnering with best-in-class external experts.
• Created a Market and Consumer Insights organization to enable insights-centric innovation, attracting top talent from CPG/Pharmaceutical companies and partnering with best-in-class external experts to develop an in-house Insights Academy.
• Overhauled the Company's Technical Career System, enhancing our ability to attract, develop and retain top talent.
