From April 2015 to December 2018 (3 years 9 months) Managing Director/Systems Administrator @ Palolo Science Center Managed, planned, and designed the network architecture, server provisioning, and refurbishment of the Palolo Computing Center. As part of a team, secured an $800,000 grant for the Palolo Valley Homes Learning Center. Re-designed and constructed the infrastructure and implementation of a new computer lab for kids. Replaced individual Windows systems on a LAN with thin Linux clients in a Windows environment with centralized server management.Taught adult education computer literacy classes.Administered a grant and contributed to the planning and creation of an afterschool program for highschool/middle school kids which focused on math and science. Created lessons centering around real world applicable math and science problems in a relatable context. The idea being that tangible connections would assist in helping the kids to realize the importance of learning.Developed strategies to use computers in fun and interesting ways and taught with a hands on approach to science and math. From December 2010 to July 2014 (3 years 8 months) Honolulu, Hi,Satellite Communications Technician @ Pacific Dataport Provided on-demand, on-site technical assistance for Hughes satellite equipment. Repaired and maintained VSAT equipment for the entirety of the Hughes network in Hawaii. Position required responsibility for all parts of the satellite system, from the main receiver dish to the broadband router connected to private customer networks. From January 2006 to September 2009 (3 years 9 months) Hawaiian IslandsSystems/Networking Consultant @ Move-On Technologies Provided on-site systems, networking, and website solutions for numerous small businesses.General technical assistance included tasks such as; Asterisk PBX installations, LAN design, configuration, and troubleshooting, IT server/user configurations/installations, and various frontend web development contracts. From December 2003 to December 2006 (3 years 1 month) Waipahu, HawaiiSatellite Communications Technician @ PeaceSAT/ TIGP Worked to ensure the maximum uptime of a satellite in a geostationary network consisting of old NOAA weather equipment that was maintained through a cooperative venture by the NSF, NASA, and the University of Hawaii. The satellite provided data, video, and voice connections for the majority of the OCEANIA region.Provided training and lecture sessions to instruct remote technicians on the satellite’s maintenance and tracking, as well as relevant information about orbital mechanics. Worked with NASA engineers on positioning burns for satellite orbits. Maintained and repaired a 10 meter satellite dish in Manoa. Repaired the electronics in antiquated earth-station parts sent in from remote locations. From June 2001 to November 2003 (2 years 6 months) University of HawaiiNetwork Engineer @ Digital Island Built, recruited, and managed a specialized monitoring team to fulfill the company's need for Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring by meticulously base-lining and testing customer circuits and services.Customized MRTG using SNMP to monitor circuits and customer QoS.Collaborated with implementation engineers to monitor and assist the installation of new customer circuits.Managed replacement, upgrades, and maintenance of hardware with vendors and coordinated 3rd tier engineering interactions with customers in problem resolution.Configured Cisco Systems routers and switches to create an isolated monitoring network. Some of the configurations included: • Connections to the network backbone • Connections to customers’ VLANs • Connections to the telco demarcation equipment (in Honolulu, San Francisco, and London) Assisted in the design and migration from an antiquated ticketing system to an enterprise level ticketing system.
