Aida Garza is currently a Founding/Director at Amistad Recovery Services, LLC. She has experience as both a leader and disability advocate. Garza has been responsible for the organization’s day-to-day operations, as well as developing and executing strategically important initiatives such as developing and implementing the organization’s strategic Plan, overseeing the development of its programming and services, and leading marketing and public relations efforts. Her experience in leadership and crisis intervention has given her atmpathy for challenge and opportunity. As a result, she has a strong leaning towards programs that offer hope and opportunity to people with disabilities. Garza has also been developing her ability to work with and understand people from diverse cultural backgrounds. This was also evident in her work with the Hispanic American Population Study (HAPS), which was held in her previous roles at Amistad. As a Founding Director of Amistad, Garza has the opportunity to build on her previous experience and knowledge in order to provide programming and services that are accessible and necessary to the individuals who visit our organization.Garza has a fluency in English and Spanish, which she uses to transmissionially serve as both a translator and a cultural advisor to Amistad. She has also been able to develop close relationships with the staff of Amistad, including many of its' residents. Garza is proud to be a bilingual translator and the first Mexican-American to serve as Executive Director at Amistad. As Executive Director, she will be responsible for advancing the organization’s mission and goals in both English and Spanish, as well as for providing support and programming to residents. Garza is astrong believer in the power of community engagement and is excited to work with HAPS and other organizations who share her focus on creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
