Research Assistant @ Indian Statistical Instiute, Computer Vision & Pattern Recognition Division, Kolkata Studied and implemented the existing methods of text detection in video images and researched on using curvelets for the extraction of text of arbitrary orientation, from video images. The inherent variations in text, its orientation and its possible similarity with its background in the image, makes this problem highly challenging. From August 2009 to April 2010 (9 months) Associate @ Mu Sigma Inc. Pricing & Assortment Planning: Leading the pricing engagement providing thought leadership to solve high impact business problems such as defining category specific competition profiles, clearance optimization, defining the next phase of pricing strategy and streamlining product line reviewsSales Forecasting: Lead a 3 member team to design an ensemble approach to forecast sales for over 300 categories across 20 geographies and a total revenue north of $80BB. With error rates under 5% the forecast is used across the organization, for financial planning as well as for store labor planningInstallation lead time analysis: Engaged closely with a merchant to provide data driven approach to roll out promotions, define service levels for involved vendors and enforce complianceProduct Returns: Built an analytical framework to identify unhealthy product returns ensuring quality assurance and customer satisfaction. Designed and automated a tableau based dashboard for merchants to identify the vendors responsible and renegotiate policies-Lead the Rapid Analytics team responsible for time sensitive high impact business problems. Provided exhaustive insights to the leadership using subject matter expertise and cross leveraging engagements across various streams within the groupWorkers Compensation and General Liability: As part of the FP&A group, engaged across Asset Protection, Environmental Safety, and Operations team to provide a holistic analytical solution to identify actionable areas of risk thus improving the safety standards at the stores and curb undue expenses. This was a significant step towards the goal of bringing down WC/GL expenses by $200M over 3yrs From March 2012 to February 2016 (4 years) Greater Atlanta AreaCourse Assistant @ Columbia University I held the position of course assistant to Prof. Vineet Goyal for the course Game Theoretic Models of Operation. My Duties included: grading of exams and homework assignments, classroom preparation and maintenance, course administration and liaison (i.e. emailing and addressing students, respond to course inquiries), and paperwork as necessary. From September 2011 to January 2012 (5 months) New YorkGraduate Student @ Columbia University I completed my Masters in Operations Research with a well balanced coursework covering both finance and industrial operations related courses. From August 2010 to January 2012 (1 year 6 months) New York, NYResearch Assistant @ Columbia University Exploring equilibria emerging from change in behavior of financial institutions, under the influence of a non-credible signal, possibly causing/preventing a systemic crisis. --Modeling interactions and outcomes in a financial network, from the ripple effect caused by "cheap talks". --Examine the equilibria for likelihood of systemic risk, under Knightian uncertainty.Acknowledged for my contribution in, Allen, F., et al., Asset commonality, debt maturity and systemic risk. Journal of Financial Economics (2011), doi:10.1016/j.jfineco.2011.07.003 From April 2011 to December 2011 (9 months) Project Leader @ Columbia University Identifying optimal trade off of price for quantity to meet CDC's risk-reward policy for Flu Vaccine Production. --Designed stochastic decision model for CDC to obtain optimal salvage price, using Crystal Ball and Opt Quest, to incentivize Flu Vaccine manufacturers to produce vaccine in accordance with CDC's risk reward policy. --Undertook scenario analysis of employing more than one vaccine manufacturers. From February 2011 to April 2011 (3 months) Project Leader @ Columbia University Investigating the airline sequencing/scheduling problem for prospective approach to achieve higher optimality. -- Defined a similarity index based pattern matching algorithm to generate smarter and enriched neighborhood. -- Utilized the edit distance criteria to retain optimal sub-queues in the FCFS sequence of arriving aircrafts. From February 2011 to April 2011 (3 months) Research Student @ Nanyang Technological University Designed and implemented an adaptive image restoration scheme by posing the corresponding regression problem using Smoothly Clipped Absolute Deviation penalty function and using Local Linear Approximation to solve the formulated unconstrained optimization problem. A comparative analysis with the existing image restoration schemes such as Total Variation, Adaptive Total Variation etc, was also conducted, proving it to be more effective and efficient. The paper on the same was published in the Journal “Pattern Recognition”. From December 2008 to June 2009 (7 months) Research Assistant @ IIIT Hyderabad Implemented incremental cryptography using Elliptic Curve Cryptography and also did the complexity analysis to show that the algorithm becomes much faster and more secure on doing so. I studied elliptic curve cryptography and proposed a way to further increase the complexity of the encryption scheme. I presented the results of my research in the form of a seminar. From April 2008 to June 2008 (3 months) Programming Intern @ Tata Consultancy Services (P) Ltd -- Implemented an instance of the Dining Philosopher's Problem. -- Successfully designed and tested a UDP based Health Monitoring System to continuously monitor connectivity between two replicated servers to fulfill requirements of Ministry of Defense. -- Implemented application using POSIX threads and socket programming in C on Linux platform. -- Design currently in continuous operation.
