I have worked in the publishing industry for over 10 years, and I am a strategic leader and technology officer with a responsibility for all aspects of our print and digital products. I have experience with all areas of innovation in the printing and publishing industry, from product development to marketing to sales and customer service. From product design to user experience, I work with our clients to achieve the best possible outcomes for their students.I first got interested in the printing and publishing industry when I started work at Pearson, as a strategic leader and technology officer with a responsibility for all aspects of our print and digital products. through my work at Pearson, I learned about many different technologies and strategies that we use to improve our products and services. I was really impressed by the way that they could use empathy and science to design products that Gallaudet students and other students could use in their classrooms. I also saw how they were working hard to create better products for their customers, and I was really inspired by their work.At Pearson, I also saw how they were able to use their customer data to improve their products and services. We gained a patent for our first customer data standard, which helped us improve the impact of our products for our customers. I also saw how they were able to use their research and analytics teams to improve the accuracy of their predictions, and I was really impressed by this. I was also impressed by how they were able to create easy to understand dashboards for their contentimprovement programmes, and I was really inspired by this too.Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Pearson, and I would sum it up by saying that I learned a lot about the printing and publishing industry and how they use different technologies and strategies to improve their products. I would definitely recommend anybody who wants to work in the printing and publishing industry to consider working at Pearson.


🎓 Education

Adam Black is an astrophysicist and was educated at University of Cambridge, where he earned his PhD in 1989. After a brief period of post-doctoral research, Black returned to the UK to become a scientist at the University of Edinburgh, where he held the post of first-year student from 1985 to 1989. In this time, Black developed his astrophysics skills, leading to distinction in 1993 as a result of his paper "A search for two nearby black holes". Black has since continued to teach and research at universities across the world and is currently a professor at the University of Manchester.

At Pearson, Black started the company’s impact studies program with customers and results-based marketing campaigns. In his role at Macmillan Learning, Black helps lead the company transformation from a leading textbook publisher to the leading eLearning provider in the US higher-ed market.Black is also experienced in customer analytics, which he employed to measure the impact of PSYCHOLOGY-SPECIFIC products and services on customer and learner outcomes. He has also been responsible for Developing and operationalising the company’s first algorithm to predict language learners at risk. Black’s research undertaken to date has included the design of analytics dashboards for content improvement, as well as global customer insights analytics programme.
