The Department of Commerce & Insurance regulates the consumer service industries in Missouri by encouraging a fair and open market; establishing coherent and evolving policies that balance the interest of consumers, professionals and industry; and enforcing state laws and regulations governing business to protect consumers from unfair and inequitable treatment. The department is funded through fees and assessments from the industries and professionals regulated by the department rather than state general revenue.
